This Sephora play box review is a little late! I just got an email notification about my January box shipping, which reminded me to post this. My overall thoughts about November’s play box that I’ve really been enjoying the variety in products they select. It’s nice to get something along the lines of skin care, hair care, make-up and perfume.
My favorites in this box were the Origins Clear Improvement charcoal mask and the Caudalie Vinosource serum. I have been wanting to try the charcoal mask, so I was super happy to get that. I have used the vinosource serum in the past and really liked it, so it was nice to get some more.
Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask
I was a little worried that the charcoal mask would be too harsh for my (extremely) sensitive skin, but it actually works really well! I have been using it about once a week and I definitely notice a difference in my skin. Like a typical mask, it gets tight as it dries and tingles a little, but as soon as you wash it off, your skin looks and feels great.
Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum
Confession: facial serums are something I still don’t completely understand. According to this Huffington Post article, they are lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients to your skin. I really like the consistency of the Caudalie serum and it doesn’t make my skin red, which is a problem I have from other lotions and face products. I’m not sure I will rush to buy it again, but I will definitely keep it in mind on my next Sephora run.
Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Perfect Nude
When I first saw ‘ultra shine,’ I figured that this lip gloss wouldn’t be the one for me. I like a slight glossy look but not a heavy glossy look. Luckily, it’s not as shiny and glossy as the name implies. It really is the perfect nude and feels super moisturizing on my lips. I like that it feels thick but not goopy.
Burberry My Burberry Blush perfume
To be honest, when I smelled this for the first time, it brought me back to my Britney Spears ‘Fantasy’ perfume days of middle & high school. It smells very similar (both have Jasmine notes), although more sophisticated. It’s not my favorite scent of all time, but I would definitely consider purchasing in the future.
Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara
I feel like I’ve been on the quest for the perfect mascara… I’ve been buying the Sephora sample packs like nobody’s business. I think part of the problem I have is that a mascara will start off great, and then start to get clumpy within a couple weeks of use. Anyone else have this problem?! Anyway, I do have to say that the Velvet Noir does not have the clump problem. I don’t know that I would say it’s my favorite mascara of all time, but once I run out of all my tiny mascaras, I think I’ll be buying this in full size.
MoroccanOil Oil Treatment
Holy, flashbacks! While the Burberry perfume gave me flashbacks to my signature middle/high school perfume, this oil was something I used religiously in college. It works great, I just happen to like a couple other brands more (this & this).

If you’re a Sephora-holic like me, I definitely recommend signing up for the play box. It’s only $10 and everything they send is available in their store or at Sephora.com, which I love. You won’t have trouble finding where to buy something that you really like. It’s also nice because you get a beauty insider card in every play box, so if you buy something at the store within 2 months of receiving the box (easy!), you get an extra 50 points for rewards.
